Understanding Common Plastics
Polyethylene terephthalate is best used for cold-pack items like peanut butter, carbonated beverages, salad dressings, spices, mouthwash, and some cosmetics. Pressure sensitive, sleek and glue labels work well on PET.
Low-density polyethylene is a flexible plastic often used for squeezable products, like mustard or hand lotion. LDPE can be easily silkscreened or labeled in more conventional ways.
High-density polyethylene is most commonly used for liquids like milk, juice, lotions, shampoos, and motor oil. Silk-screening is a good labeling choice for HDPE.
Polypropylene uses include yogurt, baby food, vitamins, and other pharmaceuticals. Glue labels or silk-screening are the nest label options.
Polyvinyl chloride is often used for mineral waters, cooking oils, or shampoos, cosmetics and soaps. Pressure-sensitive or glue labels work best.
Polystyrene common uses incude cold creams, eye drops, hair gels and vitamins. Pressure-sensitive labels work best.
